Utah Health Insurance Companies

There are currently five individual health insurance providers in Utah. Each of them varies in their plans, coverage and total benefits, and one may be better suited for your family than another.

Listed below is brief description of each carrier :

Select Health- Select Health is a PPO and HMO network provider that is also known by the name of their parent company Intermountain Healthcare or IHC. They offer a broad spectrum of major medical plans (including maternity insurance coverage, HSA plans and traditional plans), dental plans and short term plans and they also help administer the state run Health Insurance Pool (HIP).

They have one of the largest doctor networks and have many dedicated hospitals and facilities. You may also know them by their plan names Select Value, Select Med and Select Care.

HumanaOne- Humana is a PPO network provider that offers a large network of health care providers across the state. They offer a broad spectrum of plans that include all types of major medical plans, including traditional plans and high deductible HSA type plans.

They are also a national provider, so if you travel out of state, they have in-network doctors wherever you travel in the United States.

Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utah- Regence is a PPO network provider that also offers what is known as a traditional network.

A traditional network is like plans some people may remember before network providers came into existence and that allows you to see any doctor or go to any facility of your choosing. So, not only do they offer you the ability to have a cost saving PPO network plan, they give you the choice to have a slightly more expensive plan that gives you the freedom to choose.

Altius Health Plans- Altius is also known by their parent company name of Coventry Health Care. Altius is a PPO network provider that offers many different types of plans that can be fit to suit your needs in either a traditional plan or a tax saving HSA plan.

Assurant- Assurant is also known by their parent company name of Time Insurance Company. Assurant is a national PPO network provider that has a large network of health care providers across the state and nationally. They offer numerous types of major medical plans including traditional, HSA and short term plans.
